How long have the Hickey’s been involved with stone? The short answer is nobody’s really too sure. We’ve managed to trace our lineage back to about the mid-1850’s, where William Hickey operated a stonecutter’s yard in Aherla. However with numerous monuments in Kilcrea Abbey erected in the late 1700’s bearing the Hickey name, it’s clear our love of stone extends back in time a lot further than we know of.
As for ourselves, we began as monumental sculptors, manufacturing headstones from locally-sourced Cork limestone in Aherla. When the quarries in Aherla were no longer viable, we expanded into the quarrying of limestone in Tipperary to ensure a constant supply of top quality Irish limestone for our products. While we are no longer involved in the quarrying of stone in Ireland, we’re still as selective about our stone as we were back then.
Following our move to Ovens in the early 1980’s, Hickey’s was one of the first companies in Ireland to expand into the manufacture of granite worktops and fireplaces, a natural progression for a company with generations of experience in stone fabrication.
We have continually developed and adapted to new processes and methods, and we now have a workshop equipped with the most advanced stone processing CNC machinery available. Coupled with an unparalleled level of craftsmanship, skill and knowledge of the stone industry, we manufacture to the highest standard possible.
Testament to this level of quality is our Cosentino Gold Fabricator status, joining only a handful of stone fabricators across the UK and Ireland. Along with a number of select stone processors in the world, we manufacture & process Dekton, a revolutionary new ceramic-based product for use in worktops and facades, but with huge potential in the future for both indoor and outdoor applications.
